Internal wet areas such as your kitchens and bathrooms require water proofing to prevent any leakages provide adequate sloping for drainage to ensure that the water is able to be drained smoothly. This is flooring. If your home is old, we recommend to redo waterproofing works to prevent any leakages.

If you have existing tiles that you do not wish to hack but to overlay, it is possible. Provided that the underlying tiles are not hollow as this would lead to the tiles popping in the future due to temperature changes. Also, we need to assess the existing floor, whether it is even enough to overlay tiles as there might be other potential issues from overlaying tiles or an uneven surface. The thickness of the floor should also be considered as doors might not fit due to the additional height from the tiles.
